The Last of Us HBO series which is an adaptation of the great game from Naughty Dog is getting many positive reviews, being called the best adaptation of a video game in history. Well deserved in my opinion – well, maybe the Silent Hill movie deserves to be almost equally appreciated, as video games in general have no luck regarding their film interpretations unfortunately. This is why I am very satisfied with the quality level of this show.

After watching the first three episodes I am truly amazed and I hope it will not change with the upcoming ones. The acting is really good, as well as the script, despite some minor changes. You can add beautiful music of Gustavo Santaolalla and the breathtaking post-apocalyptic landscapes to the list. Not only the music is well done, but the audio in general.
The audio in both The Last of Us games is a masterpiece of sound design. The show is no different. Especially the sounds of the infected are on the same level of creativity and quality. The most characteristic sound we have heard so far is of course the one emitted by the clicker. This sound makes the skin crawl and every time I hear it it reminds me of the sound made by the ghost of a murdered woman named Kayako from the iconic Japanese horror movie Ju-On (The Grudge).
The clickers scene from the second episode is full of tension and the way how the audio in it was created is mind-blowing. The makers of the series perfectly recreated the way how these creatures use the echolocation to capture their prey as well as Joel and Ellie’s sensitive sense of hearing helping them to detect the enemies easily.

I am really impressed with what HBO has shown so far and I hope the show will be continued on the same level of quality. Let us see what will happen in the upcoming episodes.
