In this edition of Game Maker’s Notebook Austin Wintory interviews Gustavo Santaolalla, known for his scores for both The Last of Us games and Hollywood films such as Brokeback Mountain or Babel, for which he received his two Academy Awards.
The composer talks about the beginning of his musical education
The composer talks about the beginning of his musical education and career, having a band when he was a teenager and the beauty of the wrong notes. Also about his love for charango and ronroco, scoring Oscar winning movies, and his general approach to composing. He also teaches Wintory how to pronounce his name, which is quite funny.
The Last of Us Part 2 – music of revenge and redemption
Very interesting conversation, including talking about the composer’s work for The Last of Us series. Really worth listening.
